Player Profile:-
Starting out at primary school Tracy played the recorder. Within a few months an opportunity arose for learning a brass instrument. Tracy chose the Trombone, much to her mothers confusion, as her mother thought a cornet would be more appropriate for a girl. Nevertheless under the wing of the late great Tom Barlow Tracy flourished and soon be came a member of the local music centre wind and brass bands. A year later she joined Staffordshire County Youth Wind Band before defecting to the Brass band on Bass trombone. Within months Tracy learned to read treble and tenor clefs and soon progressed to Solo Trombone where she kept that seat warm for several years. Tracy did several tours of Norway, The Netherlands, Luxembourg, Germany, France and Belgium.
Tracy played with several brass groups and ensembles before settling with the Stoke-on-Trent Brass Band. It was here under the direction of Lindsay Laurie that Stoke reached the Area Finals. Tracy lists playing at the Royal Albert Hall Proms and playing with BBC Philharmonic as two highlights of her playing career. After Lindsay's departure Tracy deputised for a few bands before archiving her trombone and retiring from playing.
After watching a documentary about Whit Marches Tracy expressed a very small interest and was bombarded with invites to `have a blow'. Reluctantly and very apprehensively, Tracy joined old friends from yesteryear at Silk one wet summer evening for a blow “for old time's sake” and decided to join the band permanently.
Personal comments:-
“Playing with such a great band has made it so worth while coming out of retirement - I couldn't have picked a better bunch of people”
