Player Profile, (Personal comments):-
"First took up sticks at tender age of 16 (somewhere in the Dark Ages). Percussion was the only free music lesson available at school, and as parents already forking out a small fortune for piano lessons, it only seemed fair that I shouldn't make further unreasonable demands on the family coffers.
Within 3 weeks semi-pro career underway playing in the pits at Bollington Light Opera Group (formerly without the `Light' - try the TLA!). Many years of sitting in darkness under many different theatre stages to follow.
Also happy years spent with Cheshire Youth Orchestra, as well as many local orchestras including Stockport Symphony.
Note at this point, distinct lack of Brass Bands. Well, to fill in the gaps - at some time around 1835 I did a short stint at Berisfords (no idea of exact dates - but too young to drive - so transport provided by one Mr. Ken MacIntosh)
Also hazy memories of long drives up into th'ills with same chauffeur, but not really sure where that was (some say Whaley?)
After retiring at least twice, got dragged kicking and screaming to Silk Brass by some bloke called MacIntosh (there's a theme emerging here!) around 2001 for a little under a year - and then headed off for a long and happy retirement, even donating all sticks and instruments to good causes!
And now in 2008, the lure of the bright lights of the BBC beckoned……
Frank Sinatra eat your heart out!"
