Player Profile:-
Robs' been annoying the neighbours by playing the drums since he was twelve years old and he hasn't stopped since! He won the regional finals with Bendix Band at Torquay in 2001 playing the Moor of Venice. Then came 2nd the following year after playing Symphony for Brass in Bristol 2002. He's also played in numerous bands including wind bands and orchestra's, successfully auditioning for County of Avon Schools Orchestra at age 16. The orchestra went on tour of the east coast of America for 2 weeks which proved to be a great experience. Rob has been involved in several 'summer schools' over the years, mainly the Wessex Youth Band course run by John Grinnel which hosted the conducting talents of John himself, with Derek Broadbent, Stan Lippeat, and Mike Fowles. During the years of the course Rob progressed from student to (assistant) teacher, and since then he has taken on many students and currently searching for more! Robs prowess on the skins is a highly valued asset to the band in a period when good percussionists are hard to come by.
Personal comments:-
"As you might guess from my profile, I'm a musical hussy. I don't care what sort of music or band it is and am happy if I can hit, (or stroke gently) something in time with it. I think for me playing drums has become an addiction and the best part is when (as I assume for any musical instrument) playing turns into meditation, i.e. when you stop thinking about what you are doing and become consumed by the music. I am a kit drummer at heart, although I am currently looking to expand my tuned percussion skills. I have enjoyed playing with Silk since I started and I appreciate how Jim includes the `shed builders' as part of the band and I look forward to many more years of fun and frivolity!"
