2nd Euphonium
Bob Goodwin
Joined Silk Brass 1997
Previous Bands:-
Whaley Bridge Brass Band
Greenway Selectus
British Telecom
Player Profile:-
Bob began his assault on the Brass Band World by playing Cornet at Broken Cross secondary school. After seeing the error of playing such a tiny instrument, he progressed to Euphonium! His Brass Banding career kicked off at Whaley Bridge Band in the High Peak where he played Principal Euphonium for 13 years. It was at Whaley Bridge band where he met Lisa his wife. After collecting a wife at Whaley Bridge, Bob opted for a change of bands and progressed to Greenway Selectus, where he remained for the following five years.
Back in his School days, Bob dabbled somewhat with percussion and therefore after his stint at Greenway, he decided to give this a go. He played in various pit orchestra's and joined the British Telecom Band in Stockport for approx 2 years. He enjoyed beating seven bells out of things but, he did go on to say, " I enjoyed it, but I couldn't handle counting/mis counting dozens & dozens of bars rest!" Bob "retired" from the Banding World for 3 whole weeks, before joining Silk Brass shortly after its' foundation in 1997. Following a change round of positions in the band in January 2009, Bob took on a new challenge (and another competency to add to his banding CV) and moved to join the cornet section. Following recent acquisition of cornet players to the front row, Bob has now returned to the percussion section in the run up to the National Finals.
Bob currently (and has done for many years), holds the position of Band Master, and is a highly valued and respected member of the team. 'Band Master' can be a thankless task in many bands, but Bob carries out his duties quietly, efficiently and in a professional manner. Quite frankly, the band would be lost without him! Personal comments:-
"Its fantastic to play in a band were everybody works so well together. Its also great to play in a band with so many of my old friends, some of which I have known for nearly 30 years."
