Player Profile:-
Born into a banding family in Lincolnshire Jim followed his father, two brothers, an uncle and two cousins down to the bandroom where he picked up a cornet at a very tender age.
Jim's first competitive banding experience was on Eric Ball's “St. Michaels Mount” at the midlands area at De Montford Hall, Leicester in the early 1970s. Jim recalls that when he sat on the stage his feet didn't touch the floor and his mum had to knit him a jumper the same colour as the men's jackets as, at the age of six or seven, the band didn't have a jacket small enough to fit him. Jim's grown a bit since then!!
Having played cornet for a number of years Jim transferred to Flugel horn at the age of ten or eleven before finally settling on tenor horn at the age of fifteen.
