Player Profile:-
Andy started playing the cornet at the age of 11 at Marple school and became principle cornet of the school band, during this period he also played with the Stockport Schools Orchestra and played before HRH Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip during the Silver Jubilee of 1977. Not long after starting on the cornet Andy joined the Whaley Bridge Junior Band and progressed into the senior band the following year on 3rd cornet. Further progression through the ranks was made on the cornet where he ended his cornet playing days on the front row before changing instrument in the early 1980's to the Tenor Horn. Andy ended his long association with Whaley Band as being their Solo Horn player for over 12 years. Several slow melody, duet, quartet and contest prizes have been achieved during this period, plus his marriage to the 2nd Horn player Diane in 1986.
In 1997 a new challenge was undertaken with the inception of Silk Brass,.Whilst at Silk; many successes have been made including winning the title Champion Band of Great Britain 3rd Section in 2002.
During 2002 I played once again in front of HRH,Queen Elizabeth II and the Prime minister, plus millions of people televised worldwide in a massed band at the closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in the City of Manchester Stadium.
Personal comments:-
"Very happily married to Diane, we have 2 sons - Ben (see Solo Cornet) and James.
I am employed as a Senior Staff Engineer Assessor for the Groupama Insurances.
My personal hobbies are: Boats (I own a Quicksilver 500 Commander Sports Boat) water skiing and sea fishing. Snow skiing. Brass Bands (of course) and supporting Manchester City Football Club.
My ambitions are: To learn how to wakeboard, catch a specimen Sea Bass, ski backwards intentionally, return Silk Brass back to the 1st Section next year at the first attempt, to live long enough to see City win a Trophy."
