Player Profile:-
Tim started playing in 1979 on cornet: After passing his Grade 3, he was told by his music teacher (and Tim quotes), "Because you are a big ugly lad with no style, then Tuba will be the ideal instrument for you"!!. So Tim turned his potential talents to the Bass section.
He passed Grade 4 on Eb Tuba and won his one and only soloist prize by playing “The Ploughboy”
Tim decided that carrying Tuba on the bus every day wasn't for him, so took up Tenor Horn and passed his Grade 5, and continued playing with Sale Concert Band.
In 1983 he gave up playing to concentrate on rugby, beer and womanising; again, as stated by Tim!.......(er...... Tim. You don't need to give up playing to concentrate on the latter two!!)
Realising that there were instruments lighter than Tubas and horns, Tim started playing again on cornet. At this time he also started playing Trumpet in a comedy showband and various pit orchestras and swing bands.
Shortly after this he decided he'd had enough of touring the country in the back of a transit van and settled down back into a normal job.
In 1991 Tim got the "banding bug" again and started taking banding more seriously. (What!?.... Tim taking things seriously!!)
In 1996  He took cornet lessons with John Drover (father of Adrian Drover), "What an amazing man. I learnt more just from playing a duet with this guy than I ever learnt in a band." says Tim. John was still practicing 2 hours a day and was in his 80's at the time!
In 2007 took up the challenge of playing Soprano Cornet and enjoying his playing more than he has for years, (Good news for Silk Brass!) At the bands annual 'Band Dinner', Tim was voted "Silk Brass Performer of the Year 2007". In a statement afterwards he said he was "Shocked and proud" to be selected for this award, voted on by his colleagues. Tims' playing on the Sop goes from strength to strength.
Tims talents have also ben in demand as e has helped out or played as a regular dep with other local bands in the area, namely, Central Manchester Band, East Manchester Band, Trafford Band, Elmfield Brass, Flixton Band, Bollington Brass Band, VBS Poynton, Eccles Borough Band,
