Player Profile:-
Married for 33 years to Andrea, with 3 children (well young adults!) and 1 beautiful Granddaughter, Nancy, nearly 2 years old (the apple of my eye and already capable of getting a note out of my cornet!). I have lived in Congleton all my life, moving through a number of dwellings, as the family grew, then the inevitable, they all fly off and leave us with an empty nest!
I work as a Sales Manager for a Congleton based, German Vacuum Pump manufacturer (Busch), spending time both in the office and also many overseas trips to our sister companies around the world.
Banding history - well that goes to back to my Dad, Derek, who started his playing in the Army, then in Congleton Town Band, which I suppose “became” Berisfords Band, under the baton of Charlie Cook.
My brother Thom and I joined the junior band (even playing on Opportunity Knocks in the late 60's, our claim to TV fame! - I am sure other old Berisfords Junior Band players remember that day well - Acer, Alan??).
I then moved into the Senior Band under Granvillle Jennings, during my teens, eventually having a break (young kids, work etc, etc) for about 10 years, until starting up again with another local band, Rode Hall Silver Band (oldest band in the country, so they claim!)
I was Principal Cornet there for almost 20 years, until taking a sabbatical for a couple of years, before recently applying for a position with Silk Brass.
I also play the piano, and enjoy listening to music of all genres, from Rock to Blues, from Classical to Brass! I have to say I am a keen favourite of the old school Brass band music (Overtures, Marches, Classical arrangements, Old Test pieces, like Les Preludes - I will never forget Charlie Cook playing Sop in the Buxton Contest, I'm sure he never looked at his music! You know, one of those Goose bump moments!).
Other interests include enjoying family time at the Caravan in placeAnglesey, walking, sea fishing, bird-watching, the natural world basically.
